Chad Haspals

Having spent his developmental years focused on two dimensional art, Chad began his journey with sculpture in 1998, working in bronze, stone, clay, and wood.  He received his degree in Fine Art from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT in 2000, and began sculpting full time in 2002.  Though he occasionally sculpts in found stone, Chad’s growing reputation throughout the region is primarily from his wood sculpture, having almost all of his body of work created over the last seven years in public, private, and corporate collections across the country.

“My sculpture is driven by the nature surrounding us.  I hand select the wood that I sculpt and I try to allow the energy of the material to direct my inspirations. Working in an outdoor environment in all seasons helps me to continually be brought back to the source of those inspirations, whether it be a cold January morning or a hot summer afternoon.  The process of creating is continually fed by the emotions of that particular time and place, which I believe transmits through the finished sculpture.  My goal is to allow this process to provide a sense of place and to portray a nature that is both fragile and resilient”
